Hospital staff showered with appreciation

The team who made this possible plan on showing appreciation to health workers at other hospitals in Benoni and in surrounding areas but can only make this possible with donations from the public.

Staff at the Netcare Linmed Hospital, in Rynfield, were honoured on January 20 with ribbons and sweet treats.

The second surge of Covid-19 has put even more strain on healthcare workers and the Benoni community came together to show appreciation and honour to those who are in the frontline of the pandemic.

Ward 28 clr Mary Goby said that she was approached by Tessa Penman, a resident, who wanted to host a day of appreciation and with the assistance of residents and businesses they managed to collect donations.

Among these donations were 400 cupcakes, 150 chocolates from Cherrylane Gourmet Café, 150 packs made up of noodles and sweets, as well as cool drinks from The Beverage Company.

A volunteer from Dare To Love, Padi Abendroth, jumped on board to assist with the donation of the cool drinks as well as putting up ribbons on the gate of the hospital.

Abendroth explained the green ribbons represent the virus and red ribbons represent Dare To Love.

Ursula Schultz, a Rynfield resident who took part in the initiative, was there early to put up ribbons on the gate and said this was all about the community showing their appreciation to healthcare workers.

“We can’t be there to assist but we need to let them know that we appreciate them,” she said.
