Body found at Putfontein off-ramp

No arrests have been made and the police are investigating.

The body of a suspected illegal miner, believed to be in his late 30s, was found near the Putfontein off-ramp this morning (January 21) at around 7am.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said police received a tip-off and responded to the scene.
There were no visible injuries on the body.

“Further information revealed the victim might have been killed underground and his body was dumped above ground,” said Sekele.

The motive of the killing is unknown.

An inquest docket was opened at the Benoni SAPS.

No arrests have been made and the police are investigating.

Sekele added the police will continue to put a stop to illegal mining and patrolling in the area.
