Korsman gets an upgrade

Korsman Conservancy has upgraded their facility to cater for those in wheelchairs.

Korsman Conservancy recently laid a wheelchair path up the newest viewing berm near Pan Street so the view over the fence is accessible to wheelchair users as well.

“They have not been able to enjoy the elevated views until now. We will install a second one at the berm near Shannon Road so that our two most popular berms are both accessible,” said conservancy chairperson Jane Trembath.

“The path leads off the paved walkway which we motivated for in 2017 to create a safe walking space for all, especially for less mobile people and children.

“Everyone had to walk on the road beforehand and was at high risk from speeding drivers.

“Ekurhuleni realised the need and have completed 1.45km so far.

“It has made walking around Korsman much safer and more accessible. We hope the walkway will be completed next year.”

There was more good news for the conservancy when the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora, in supporting the environment, sponsored a dustbin on the perimeter of the Korsman Bird Sanctuary.
