Putfontein grannies shown love at Christmas party

The NPO provides care and support to the elderly residents of Putfontein.

The Samukelo Esihle Community Project recently hosted a Christmas party for 100 grannies from Putfontein and surrounding areas.

The founder, Samukelo Tshabalala, said the party was hosted to show them the grannies they are loved, to give them hope and show them they are not alone.

“It is important to show the elderly that there are people out there who care about them because most of them are carrying a huge burden on their shoulders,” said Tshabalala.

“The party was aimed at getting the grannies together so they can talk to each other and forget about their problems for a bit.”

The NPO provides care and support to the elderly residents of Putfontein.

They have about 70 elderly members who meet three days a week at a local church in Mayfield Extension One and Six, where they participate in Bible studies, exercise and handcrafts.

Tshabalala said due to the pandemic they were able to continue with their regular activities.

The organisation donated about 1 500 food parcels to those in need during the pandemic.

She said they thank everyone who donated food parcels to them, which were mostly donated to the grannies.

The grannies were entertained with music and dance provided by the youngsters.

The Christmas party was sponsored by Two Mountains. Gauteng sale manager Saxon Sangwene said they sponsored the party as their way of giving back to the community.

“If it wasn’t for the community, our business wouldn’t be where it is now. So now it is our chance to say thank you to them,” said Sangwene.
