EMPD welcomes new oversight committee

The committee was given well wishes as they embark on their new journey.

In a virtual meeting recently, City manager Dr Imogen Mashazi greeted and ‘met’ seven newly appointed EMPD oversight committee members.

“MMC for Community Safety Clr Pheladi Mmoko, EMPD chief of police Jabulani Mapiyeye and his management team welcomed the seven,” said EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.

The new members are Olga Makgoba, Louis Steenkamp, Lihle Ndzelu, Raymond Gundula, Dr Mikal Reza Patel, Melane Kruger and Khehla Madlala.

“These competent candidates, who are on a three-year term, are ready to hit the ground running,” Mokheseng said.

“Their function includes creating processes for risk governance, monitoring and reporting to the City manager, creating clear duties and improve effectiveness within the EMPD, among others.”

Mashazi and Mmoko wished the committee good luck.

Mapiyeye said: “This is a gap we wished to fill in, since the EMPD inception/formal launch (in February 2002) and today. We are delighted because we have the immediate team who will assist in policing the metro police.”
