UPDATE: Six suspects in black VW shot at, torched trucks

It is alleged that about six perpetrators were involved. No injuries were reported.

Police are investigating a case of attempted murder and malicious damage to property after two trucks were set alight on the N12 East and West near the Etwatwa off-ramp this morning at around 5am.

According to police district communications officer Sgt Raider Ubisi, one of the trucks was driving from Delmas to Johannesburg (N12 west) to make deliveries when it was approached by a black Volkswagen vehicle.

“The VW was driving on the N12 east when it crossed the verge and stopped. Three men got out and starting shooting at the truck. The driver managed to run away,” said Ubisi.

“The driver of another truck, also travelling westerly, saw the shooting, stopped and ran away.”

Both trucks were then set alight.

The motive is unknown and a case was opened at the Springs Police Station.
