Man arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm in Chief Albert Luthuli

He was then arrested and detained at the station.

A man (26) was arrested for being in possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition on November 26 in Chief Albert Luthuli.

Spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mopeli said it is alleged that the man assaulted a child, and then community members went to his house to confront him.

“As they were confronting him, the man took out a firearm to scare off the community members. However, they managed to overpower him and they took the firearm from him,” said Mopeli.

“Some of the residents saw a police vehicle and they stopped them and told them about the incident.”

Mopeli said the Ekurhuleni Tactical Task Team went to the man’s house but he failed to produce a licence for his firearm.

He was then arrested and detained at the station.
