Body in Homestead Dam that of a missing man

The man's hands were bound with tape

The Benoni SAPS has opened an inquest docket after the body of a 40-year-old man was found in Homestead Dam on November 3 at around 7am.

Police confirmed the man was reported missing at the Brakpan Police Station on November 1.

According to CMS GM Gerrit van Heerden, a father and son were fishing when several bottles in the dam caught their attention.

“As they took a closer look at the bottles, they saw the body of a man,” van Heerden said.
“CMS was called to the scene and contacted the police to take over.”

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele confirmed police attended to the scene.

She said the deceased’s hands were bound with tape and a note was found in his vehicle, which was parked near the dam.

“A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death,” she concluded.
