Buy local and support the Manger Care Centre

The organisation has been around for 33 years.

Believing in second chances is what the Manger Care Centre in Brentwood Park is all about as they rehome and rehabilitate those who just need a little help along the way.

The organisation has been around for 33 years and since the announcement of lockdown, the first three months have been difficult as they received only 20 per cent in donations of their monetary income.

Andrew Wessels, communications officer of the NPO, said they have reached their maximum capacity, which is 350 people, due to the effects of lockdown as a lot more people have come looking for assistance.

“We are grateful to the community and companies that donated food to us during the lockdown. Not only were we able to feed our own, but we were also able to donate 50 tons of food to other organisations in need through our partnership with Bad Boys,” he said.

The centre reaches about 3 000 beneficiaries through the following services:

• Post rehabilitation services

• Housing for the destitute

• Psychological services to those who need it

• Fixed address for paroles

• Services to the disabled

• Accommodation for the elderly on Sassa grants

• Sustainability programmes, including upholstery, bakery, manufacturing, and the seeding project.

Since the move to level one, the organisation’s monetary income has only increased to 50 per cent, making it difficult for them to assist the community as well as they previously could.

“We need to pay for our petrol in order for our trucks to deliver donations as well as our electricity bills that have piled up.

“We would like to encourage residents to support our bakery, upholstery and our tunnel manufacturing services that not only create jobs for those who need it, but profits made also go towards the running of the organisation,” said Wessels.

One of their biggest outreach programmes is the food programme in Etwatwa and Daveyton. They provide nutritious meals to over 38 crèches in the area on a weekly basis.

“We do this to ensure all the children are fed healthy meals when they go to crèche,” he added.

To donate towards the organisation, residents can contact the centre on 011 747 8700 or send an email to Sarika Loubser on fundraiser9@mangercare.co.za
