EMPD officers were on high alert during the semi-long weekend (September 24 to 27) and made 509 arrests in Ekurhuleni for drivers drinking and driving.
“EMPD officers from the south, north and eastern regions, including the Social Crime Prevention Units with Specialised Services, conducted roving and static drunken driving roadblocks over the semi-long weekend,” said EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.
• In Alberton, Boksburg, north and South of Germiston, Thokoza, Vosloorus and Zonkizizwe areas 386 were arrested.
• In Brakpan, Nigel, Springs, Tsakane, Etwatwa, Kwa-Thema and Daveyton 54 were arrested.
• In Edenvale Kempton Park, Sebenza, Thembisa and Olifantsfontein 69 were arrested.
All the arrestees are expected to appear in the respective magistrate’s courts soon. This is an ongoing operation.
