Cosmos dam receives 70 000 litres of water

An additional 20 000 litres of water is expected to be pumped into the dam later today (September 30).

When the Benoni community joins hands they prove that they can be a force to be reckoned with.

This was evident yet again when over 70 000 litres of water was pumped into the dried up Cosmos Park dam in Northmead on September 29, after a plea for help came just a day earlier.

Shelley Owens from the Benoni SPCA reached out to the RynRes community after the organisation received a phone call from residents concerned about the welfare of the geese and other animals living in the dam that was running low on water.

The message was forwarded to the Afriforum team who, without hesitation, offered to assist.

Byron Michell from Afriforum, who is also a resident in the RynRes community, and Shane from the community, offered their services which included water tankers and water to help fill the pan.

Ramon Viljoen from the CPF and Zen Teitge from Afriforum assisted by providing a water truck and just a day later the once-dried dam was filled with enough water to sustain the animals.

The Benoni SPCA and Afriforum were grateful to the CPF, Rynfield agricultural holdings, Benoni small farms, Rynres Community and Vera Hodgson for their selfless acts of kindness and compassion for the well-being of the animals that call the Cosmos dam their home.
