Etwatwa Greening team clean!

The Greening team cover all Ekurhuleni eastern region areas, such as Springs, Rynfield and Kwa-Thema.

The Etwatwa Greening team was founded by Vusi Matladi, Daveyton resident, in 2013 after he interned with Ekurhuleni Environmental Resources and Waste Management for 12 months.

The team this year then registered as a NPC so they can start gaining sponsors to sustain their mandate in terms of community environmental issues and awareness.

“We care about keeping our city clean and protecting our environment, especially the rivers,” explained Matladi.

“In the Ekurhuleni region alone we have 360 rivers and dams that needs more then just beautification.”

The Greening team cover all Ekurhuleni eastern region areas, such as Springs, Rynfield and Kwa-Thema.

Earlier this year, the team in partnership with Hennops Revival, Ekurhuleni Environmental Resource management and other such stakeholders, organised a clean up Blesbokspruit Wetland in Etwatwa Quantum, extension three.

The Blesbokspruit is a protected wetland, which is under threat according to an article published in Research Gate in 2018.

Action for Responsible Management of our Rivers (Armour) thanked the Etwatwa Greening Team on Facebook for all their hard work, dedication and organising the clean up, which saw 123 bags of rubbish collected and removed from the wetland.

“The wetland runs from Daveyton North all the way through Etwatwa,” said Matladi.

Another event that the team was a part of recently was the clean up done along Racecourse Road in Lakefield.

“We collaborated with Korsman’s Conservancy in August for the clean up along with a few other organisations. It was a long day with 200 bags of litter collected, removed or recycled,” concluded Matladi.
