CZ 7.65mm pistol fished out of Homestead Dam

What seemed like a normal day of fishing for an 11 year old and her dad turned into a success story when the youngster fished out a CZ 7.65mm pistol at Homestead Dam.

According to BFS WO Grant Giblin of the Benoni Flying Squad, the duo went fishing on September 16 and the pre-teen’s line hooked a catch.

“To her and her father’s astonishment, she reeled out a cloth bank bag with an object inside. Upon opening the bag, the father discovered a firearm whereupon he immediately made sure the weapon was secured and called authorities,” Giblin explained.

“Upon arrival, officers found it to be a CZ 7.65mm pistol with the numbers filed off. The forensic unit was dispatched to investigate.

“Benoni Flying Squad applauds the father and daughter team for being outstanding citizens and doing the right thing by handing the firearm in.”

* In other incidents the BFS officers also arrested 10 suspects, recovered seven motor vehicles and one trailer from September 14 to September 16.

“Information led officers to a white Polo Vivo on the corners of Mlambo and Ncobo streets, Tsakane,” Giblin said.
“The vehicle was reported hijacked and the suspect found in possession of the vehicle was arrested immediately.”

In another incident four were arrested around Greyilla and North Rand roads, Kempton Park, Winnie Mandela, Etwatwa and Mocke Street, Daveyton after allegedly being found with drugs. Heroine (nyaope) and mandrax were confiscated.
