Hospice in need of Covid-19 private testing

Hospice East Rand is in need of quick Covid-19 test results as they need to return to work to assist their patients.

Covid-19 is not just affecting those who have it, but those who have to stay away from work for longer hence unable to help others with life-limiting illnesses, due to the result waiting time.

“Hospice East Rand is having a challenging time with Covid-19,” said marketing and media liaison Jonquil Siepman.

“When budgeting, we never anticipated the need for all the additional personal protective equipment (PPE) we’d need with a pandemic on our hands let alone fees for Covid-19 testing for our sisters.

“With our sisters being so hands on with our patients they can’t wait for two weeks to get results through government clinics meaning that we need to utilise private facilities to get quicker results and a test costs R850 each time.

“This cost together with the additional PPE costs is a real struggle so we are hoping that by reaching out within our community, local businesses or individuals may be able to sponsor this testing for our sisters.”
