Rynfield residents using petition to take veld matters into their own hands

The current state of the vacant land is attracting squatters, vagrants, crime, unlawful dumping of refuse and has become an eyesore for the community

The City Times recently did a walk-through with Honiball Street residents to investigate numerous complaints received regarding the veld that lies between Honiball Street and Pretoria Road.

They have now started a petition to get the help they need.

This petition aims to support the local Rynfield community to begin clean-up operations in the vacant land adjoining the Ted Barber Fire Station, Rynfield, at the corner of Pretoria Road, Raeburn Street and Honiball Street.

The current state of the vacant land is attracting squatters, vagrants, crime, unlawful dumping of refuse and has become an eyesore for the community.

This petition is intended to gather and show the support and approval of the community to host a clean-up operation of this land, and to present it to the Ekurhuleni council.

A quotation from a local contractor for the clean-up and flattening of this land was received. It will take approximately 10 working days to complete the job, at a daily rate of R2 000.

Support in contributions to this initiative will be collected from anyone who is able to assist.

For more information, to make a donation or just to join this initiative, open your camera on your phone and scan the bar code image used with this story. This will then show a message on your phone, taking you to the designated site.

The City Times is awaiting comment from ward councillor for the area Jacques Meiring.
