How Curro Serengeti is adapting to online learning and COVID-19

The pandemic forced the closure of schools for our safety and sent education, along with the country, into a dark and uncertain time. Fortunately the vision of Curro Serengeti shone through the dark tunnel of fear which surrounded us at the time. Before schools closed, we were already being prepped and briefed for our switch to remote learning and after being gifted a week’s holiday we were back to learning.

2020, the year of vision as we’ve named it, began with proclamations of prosperity and exponential growth, but as the pandemic arrived and the panic spread, our belief in the vision only got stronger. Our way of life may have changed but the vision remains the same. This year will reveal to give us all clarity.

The pandemic forced the closure of schools for our safety and sent education, along with the country, into a dark and uncertain time. Fortunately, the vision of Curro Serengeti shone through the dark tunnel of fear which surrounded us at the time.

Before schools closed, we were already being prepped and briefed for our switch to remote learning and after being gifted a week’s holiday we were back to learning. Two and a half months later our school welcomed us back with the same level of preparation they had when schools closed.

After the screening process, which entailed a temperature check and getting our hands sanitised, we were greeted by our teachers’ smiles which (although hidden by masks) reflected the positive attitude they bring with them to work every day, even under the pressure of having to work extra hours and ensure that all of us cope. Initially, it was tough for us upon our return.

Having to complete all the work that needed to be completed in that short period of time was a lot more challenging than adapting to the circumstances, although through the participation, willpower, and perseverance of both parties (teachers and learners), we managed to reach goals that were set in place for us, goals that allow us to be ready to welcome other grades back. The road got misty and the path became unclear but through the preparation, dedication, and sheer tenacity of our teachers at Curro Serengeti, our vision has been perfected; 20-20 vision as an optometrist would say. It is clear that when things are tough the difference between those who make it and those who don’t is simply a matter of who’s more prepared.
