EMPD scoops up drugs worth R9 000 in all-night operation

Various drugs and cash were confiscated during the operation.

Between Thursday night (August 20) and the early hours of Friday morning (August 21), the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit Members, on an all-night crime prevention operation, arrested seven male and female suspected drug dealers, in Katlehong and Daveyton, and confiscated drugs worth almost R9 000.

According to EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng, on Friday night at around 9pm, in Palmridge, officers patrolling Tsietsi informal settlement/phase 5 stopped and apprehended a suspicious 26-year old male, after he was found with 22 ziplock bags of dagga, 18 mandrax tablets, seven knotted plastics of nyaope (worth R2 500) and R1 530 in cash. The suspect, who resisted arrest, was taken to Eden Park Police Station.

On Friday, between midnight and 1am, officers, acting on a tip-off from concerned community members, arrested two female and four male suspects, between the ages of 19 and 24, inside a Daveyton hostel, for drugs possession. Eighteen ziplock bags of dagga, 65 pieces of “rock” (crack cocaine), 55 knotted plastics of nyaope, 10 half and full mandrax tablets (valued at R5 960) and R647 cash were seized following a thorough search and the suspects remanded at Daveyton Police Station.
