Special operation conducted by all-female officers yields good results

Benoni SAPS station commander Brig Thabo Mphuthi applauded female law enforcement officers and their counterparts for their efforts and dedication

Female officers from the Benoni SAPS, EMPD and Gauteng Traffic Police conducted a joint crime prevention operation to make an immense impact on crime in the Benoni area on August 13.

The joint operation was in conjunction with Operation Okae Molao, under the theme #Generation Equality: realising women’s rights for an equal future.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said the main objective was to concentrate on the crime infested areas through roadblocks, stop-and-searches, compliance inspections on second-hand goods dealers, illegal mining and liquor outlets in compliance with the Disaster Management Act, as well as to raise awareness about gender-based violence through distribution of pamphlets.

During the operation, one man was arrested for being in possession of stolen property.

One vehicle was impounded, 852 vehicles were stopped and searched during the road blocks and three second-hand goods shops were closed for non-compliance.

A total of 54 traffic fines were issued to the total value of R24 000.

From illegal mining, 43 pendukas, three gas bottles, 29 metal pots, two wheelie bins, three penduka stands, 10 bags of gold dust, three picks, six spades and 200 metal balls were confiscated.

The arrested suspect will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.

Benoni SAPS station commander Brig Thabo Mphuthi, who led the operation, thanked and applauded all female law enforcement officers and their counter parts for their efforts and dedication.

“We will continue to stamp our authority as the government to ensure law and order is maintained,” she said.
