Laerskool Verkenner principal dies in car accident

A memorial was held at the school on July 16

Laerskool Verkenner staff, learners and loved ones recently bid farewell to Ray Thakadu Nyalungu (51), who was the school’s principal. He died in a car accident on his way to Limpopo to fetch his children, recently.

Nyalungu was the principal for two years at the school. The principal was born on May 1969 to parents John and Annah Nyalungu.

In a statement from the school, the following was noted:

He grew up in Malapile Village where he started primary school at Malapile Primary in 1978.

He attended Malemocha High between 1985 to 1987 and then proceeded to Dennis Matlhaba where he completed matric.

The educator furthered his studies as follows:

  • 1995: Bachelor of Arts
  • 1997: Higher Education Diploma
  • 2000: Bachelor of Education Honours
  • 2010: Masters in Social development

Nyalungu worked at the following schools:

  • Vezukhono High school (Daveyton)
  • Mpengesi Primary School (Daveyton)
  • Kuzimela Special School (Katlehong)
  • Laerskool Leondale (Leondale)
  • Kgolagano Primary School (Daveyton)
  • Laerskool Verkenner (Benoni)

Nyalungu is survived by his wife, children, brother and mother.

“He remains the strongest person we at Laerskool Verkenner know,” the statement read.

“Whatever life threw at him, he handled with such bravery and devotion. He has touched countless lives with his kind-hearted and humble nature and he leaves a void in our hearts no one can fill. If our love alone could have saved him, he never would have died! Sir, you left us to soon! May your soul rest in perfect peace.”
