Man who tricks mom into leaving daughter alone believed to be Benoni’s most wanted serial rapist

The suspect conned the mother into leaving home to register for a food parcel and then raped the daughter

The Benoni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit (FCS) conducted an awareness campaign in Putfontein on July 18.

This comes after a 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a wanted Benoni serial rapist on July 15.

The suspect’s identikit was released to the media in 2017.

However, cases have been opened against the rapist since 2014, in Crystal Park, Daveyton, Etwatwa, Barcelona and Putfontein.

He is linked to over 60 cases through DNA evidence.

The Benoni FCS interacted with the residents and they handed out pamphlets with safety tips.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Sgt Raider Ubisi said the victim identified the alleged suspect when she recognised his identikit at the police station while they were being assisted to open a case of rape.

“According to the mother she was with her daughter at their home in Mayfield Extension Eight when an unknown man knocked on their front door,” said Ubisi. “When the mother opened the door, the man told her to hurry to the park at Mayfield Extension Seven to register for a food parcel.”

Ubisi said the man told the mother not to take shortcuts on her way to the park as he will follow her and give her a lift as soon as he is done informing others.

“When the mother returned from the park without registering, her daughter told her that the man threatened her with scissors and raped her. The man was wearing a black face mask and beanie.”

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said the man is using the Covid-19 pandemic to trick people so he can commit these crimes.

“We urge the community to help us catch this alleged rapist and not to fall for his tricks,” she said.

Police said the man targets female victims aged between 12 and 40 within the Ekurhuleni district.

The suspect is described as short, slender, but masculine, has a scar below his left eye, is isiZulu speaking and wears a beanie or cap.

Police are appealing to anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact the Gauteng Serial and Electronic Investigations (SECI) team, WO John Mokoena on 071 675 6166 or Capt Leon Bester on 079 890 7472.
