“I am grateful to God for being with me throughout my career,” said Lukhwareni.

“I am still healthy and fit. People don’t believe that I am retiring.”

The Kempton Park resident said the SAPS has molded him to become a better person.

“The SAPS is my family and I feel like I’m losing something close to my heart. If I had more time at the Benoni SAPS I would have achieved more,” he said.

He said the reason for joining the police service was to make a difference in the community.

Lukhwareni has celebrated numerous highlights. One of them was being appointed to be part of the safety and security planning committee for the Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) summit in 2017.

On his retirement plans, he said he is going to relax for now and clear his mind.

Lukhwareni encourages the community to work with the police so that they can succeed against crime.

“The SAPS needs a community that will get involved so let us put our differences aside and stop being selfish because we all have a common enemy which is crime,” he said.

“The community must stop detecting how the police must do their work.”

He urges the community to report any form of corruption and not to partake in giving brides.

His message to his colleagues is that they must remain positive, continue the fight against crime, and perform their duties with respect.
