Daveyton resident William Bene (23) founded NPO Bokamoso Logistics with the sole purpose of eradicating poverty and unemployment in his community by granting the youth an opportunity for economic freedom.

The NPO, based in Daveyton, has three employees and their services allow residents to order food at local township spaza shops through a WhatsApp number.

The employees of Bokamoso use their bicycles to deliver to their clients at a reasonable fee, which is incorporated into the purchase.

“The plan is to expand to other townships,” said Bene.

He matriculated in 2014, and the year after he got a job as subcontractor at Big Five.He received funding from the church in 2016 to study electrical engineering at Ekurhuleni East TVET College in Benoni. In 2019, he registered for an installation, maintenance and repair programme and he also got a job as a paint liner preparation person.

Due to the nature of work he was doing he resigned, applied for a study loan to further his education and in early 2020 he registered for N4 electrical engineering.

“When we went into lockdown, I identified a gap in market.

“People from the townships don’t have delivery services and I needed money to survive.

“I had already bought one bicycle and formed relationships with local community spaza shop owners,”he said.

People order through him, he delivers and collects the money.

Bene is calling on any residents who can assist with the following:
