Tom Jones Street reopened following a truck trailer fire

The Benoni Fire Station received a call from someone who saw the vehicle on fire.

Tom Jones Street and surrounding roads have been reopened following the closure due to a trailer of a truck that caught on fire this morning (June 16).

Eric Maloka media spokesperson for the Disaster Emergency Management Services said: “Around 9.45am the Benoni Fire Station dispatched firefighters after receiving a call that a petrol tanker was on fire.”

Upon arrival, they established that it was the trailer of an articulated truck, which was unhooked by the truck driver, that was on fire, not a petrol tanker.

“The truck driver said he does not know what caused the fire, he was driving and noticed the trailer was on fire so he stopped on Tom Jones Street approaching the N12 eMalahleni highway, and unhooked it,” Maloka said.

With the assistance of the Farrarmere and Boksburg fire stations, and EMPD, the fire was extinguished and damped down by 10.45am.

“No injuries were recorded on scene,” Maloka said.
