First day back at school a success for St Dunstan’s

The school held online classes during lockdown and maintained the online assistance for learners who could not attend school due to health reasons.

The doors to the St Dunstan’s College and Preparatory schools opened on June 3 and their first day was a success with only a few children absent.

The City Times visited the school on their first day and went through a screening process before entering the school.

The Grade Seven learners were divided into three classes and they did not change classrooms. Instead, their educators changed after every lesson.

Breaks are staggered for the young ones, as well as their drop-off time in the mornings to avoid an influx of learners at the same time.

“Our Grade Seven and 12 learners are attending school in their casual clothes because it is difficult to wash their blazers daily,” said Mandy Lachenicht, campus head of marketing.

The Grade Seven learners also use their cellphones for lesson content to avoid the use of books and are encouraged to use disposable packaging for their lunch.

The matriculants were excited to be back at school because this is their last year and they found that being in the classroom was more beneficial than online learning.

Lachenicht said the Grade 12 learners will change classrooms according to their subjects, but are expected to sanitise before entering the classroom.

Overall, the first day for the school was a success and they intend on improving as time continues.
