Informal settlement receives mobile toilets

The mobile toilets were delivered on April 24 and residents have separated each as 10 will be used by the males and the other by the females.

New Bridge informal settlement in Benoni received 16 mobile toilets and access to four taps with running water after requesting these essentials since 2016.

The informal settlement is made up by five main houses with shacks surrounding the houses, one of the yards occupy 54 people.

Before they received these mobile toilets Khayelethu Betala explained that they had to relieve themselves across the railway.

“This was dangerous as an old man was robbed and killed when he was relieving himself.

“We just want to thank our ward councillor Sinethemba Matiwane for making it all possible”.

Female resident Julae Webster said that she feels much safer going to the toilet and has made their surroundings a bit more hygienic as children would relieve themselves anywhere because they were too young to go across the railway.

She added that they now have enough taps to collect water and they keep the toilets clean at all times.
