World International Nurses' Day was celebrated on May 12, and the Ekurhuleni metro found it befitting for all to salute all nurses for being on the frontline of our health care.World International Nurses' Day is celebrated every year in honour of Florence Nightingale, a trailblazer in the nursing profession.The metro?s spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, said the theme for this year, Nursing the World to Health, coincides with the critical life-saving role which nurses play in the fight against the global Covid-19 pandemic. ?The metro honours the hundreds of nurses that continuously serve the people of Ekurhuleni on daily basis.?On this day, we remember those nurses who have died, like Josephine Manini Peter, originally from Tsakane, who died of Covid-19 while on duty in the United Kingdom.?Reflecting on the significance of this day, Nocawe Ngaleka, the chief professional nurse at Geluksdal Clinic, said: ?This day reminds me of the nurses? pledge of service, which is an oath that I took when I completed my training as a nurse. ?It is a day that means a lot to me, as I serve our community with humanity and dignity.?
