Thelma Nyandu, from the Department of Health, said as they are the essential workers, they are the shield of the country and it is their duty to make sure that people are protected.

She said they screen anyone who wants to. They specifically check the individual’s temperature to detect whether they are exposed to the virus or not.

“When we check the temperature, it should be less than 38 degrees, if it is above and you have the symptoms of corona it is when we take you for testing,” said Nyandu.

Questions that were asked were:

• Have you or anyone in your family travelled to any country/ies in the last six weeks?

• Did you or anyone in your family have contact with a traveller from outside South Africa?

• Have you or anyone in your family had contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19?·

• Are you suffering from flu or any symptoms, such as coughing, sneezing, sore throat, fever or shortness of breath?

The questions were asked in order for the nurses to know whether an individual had signs of the coronavirus.
