“The first person went into the ATM and he successfully withdrew money and went away, and the next person tried to withdraw then he told him that the ATM was jammed and it needs a scanner,” said Nyathi.

“The victim went to the machine, inserted his card and entered his pin, the ATM also jammed and the other guy who was behind him offered to help him, but then his card didn’t come out.”

Nyathi said the man then confronted the man who helped and asked him where his card was, however the two men who made the withdrawal before him ran into a white Toyota Yaris and drove off.

“The man ran off as he was confronting him, but he managed to apprehend him with the help of one of the petrol attendants.

The man was then taken to the Actonville Police Station and was charged with theft of bank cards.

The station commander Col Elsie Mashinini welcomed the arrest.

She is also appealing to the public to be always vigilant when going to the ATM to withdraw money and not to accept any help from strangers.
