A case of business robbery was opened at the Putfontein SAPS after a grocery store was robbed on March 24 at Mayfield Square around 4.30pm.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Sgt Raider Ubisi said one of the cashiers at the store alleges he was busy at the till when he was accosted by an unknown man who instructed him to cooperate because this was a robbery. The robber took money that was in the till.

“The other robbers, who were armed, took money from the other tills. One of them threatened the security guard and told him and the customers to remain calm,” said Ubisi.

“The security guard and customers were kept at the back of the store.”

Ubisi added that two more alleged suspects escorted the manager to the office at the back and took the coins that are kept in the office.

“It is alleged there were more than seven robbers,” he said.

The robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of money and a cellphone.
