Rynpark closes its doors to visitors

President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a national lockdown during his address to the nation on March 22.

Due to Covid-19, Rynpark facilities have been screening visitors before their visit, but will now not allow any visitors during the lockdown period unless there is end of life for any of the residents in the facilities.

“If there is end of life, only one member of the family will be allowed for 15 minutes,” said Marius Botha, chief executive officer at Rynpark.

Rynpark was founded in 1974 and was known as the Benoni Council for the care of the aged.

In 2007, the name was changed to Rynpark Association for the Aged.

A press release was submitted by Colette Jansen van Vuuren, nursing services manager, and Botha regarding the decision to not allow visitors:

The Rynpark family wishes to extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to everyone across the globe who has lost a loved one to the coronavirus.

To the health workers across the world who are fighting this, we thank you and pray for you.

At Rynpark we are fully aware of the seriousness of the current situation and we want to thank our Board of Trustees and members on all the sub-committees for their leadership and commitment to care for our seniors.

The board has been instrumental in their support of the implementation of our stringent protocols and all of the emergency measures that have been put in place to combat and control the spread of this virus among our residents.

We also want to thank our community for their support, assistance and patience with the current restrictions in place. We believe our commitment to the safety of our own members and residents will also have an impact on the community at large.

Most importantly, we would like to extend our most grateful appreciation to all of our staff, especially our health workers who are at risk of exposure every single day.

Every single department has a critical role to play in slowing the spread of the virus.

We thank them for their commitment, and our prayers are with each and every one and their families.

Details on the restrictions, in addition to various other communication circulars, are available on the rynpark.co.za website.

President Rampahosa stated that the lockdown will commence from midnight of March 26 to midnight of April 16 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
