U3A talks science

The scientific talk focused on the universe, the galaxy and solar system, as well as the causes of climate change, human influence on global warming and the planets.

The University of Third Age (U3A) hosted a scientific talk at the Northfield Methodist Church, in Northmead, on March 10 to educate people about global warming and the importance of saving the planet.

The geology talk was presented by retired lecturer Dr Sonja Richter.

“I have always been interested in the future of the Earth and I want to share my information and knowledge because I believe in helping the community,” said Dr Richter.

“I was asked to come here today and talk to people about global warming, as a former geology lecturer – I think the two link perfectly.”

Her talk focused on the universe, the galaxy and solar system, as well as the causes of climate change, human influence on global warming and the planets.

Dr Richer said that future generations have to take responsibility for their environment, as well as themselves because if the planet is destroyed there will be no future at all.

They reach out to retired professionals, students and members of the community.

The joining fee is R50 per year and anyone can join the club; there is no age restriction.
