Keeping up with council

All council related matters

Phase five of Pretoria Road complete

The newly constructed lane on Pretoria road opened to traffic on February 25.

According to the Ekurhuleni metro’s spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, due to budget constraints, the construction of Pretoria Road is implemented in phases and phase five of the project was completed for the 2019/20 financial year.

“The outstanding works required to complete the reconstruction of the entire Pretoria Road will cost the metro approximately R70-million, hence the phasing of the project.”

He added that phase six of the project will commence in July 2020 (2020/21 financial year), based on the allocation of funds.

Managers promoted to senior positions

The Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency promoted two middle management officers to senior positions.

Mannetjie Johannes Riet, currently based in Leon Ferreira Fire station in Boksburg, and Mamowelase Agnes Makwane, based in Brakpan Fire Station, have been promoted from senior district manager positions to regional positions respectively as of March 1.

Each will be managing 10 fire stations from each region.

Head of the department Sam Sibande said: “From being junior firefighters for the past 25 years of both their services and growing through the ranking structures to regional managers, it is a milestone achievement for both managers.

“The division Emergency Services welcomes both of you alike as regional managers and we are looking forward to the division’s success from you.

“We believe that your abilities will help upgrade community service delivery to greater potentials and to grow bigger than it is,” he said.

Pay your account on time to avoid credit control measures

Ekurhuleni metro is in the process of migrating to a new and improved consumer billing system.

The new system will be rolled out in phases until June 2020.

The roll-out of the system to Alberton and Brakpan customer care centres will be from March 7 to 18. The metro’s spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, said the billing processes will be affected during the system migration, therefore, account statements, including on the Siyakhokha website will be delayed.

“However, account payments will not be affected and all payment platforms will be available to customers.”

Customers are reminded to continue paying their monthly accounts by the due date as credit control measures will still be applied.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused,” he said.
