Two arrested in Benoni CBD and charged with business robbery

A case of business robbery was opened at the Benoni SAPS.

Two men aged 28 and 29 were arrested and charged with business robbery in Tom Jones Street, Benoni central business district (CBD), around 6.30pm on February 26.

Spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said according to the victim who was at the counter when the incident occurred, an unknown man entered the shop.

“The man then went to the counter and took out a cellphone that was charging, and then took out a firearm and pointed it at the woman,” said Sekele.

“His accomplice then walked into the store armed with a knife, and took two other cellphones.”

Sekele said the police officer who received a tip-off about the robbery, walked into the shop, disarmed the robbers and arrested them.

Upon further investigation, the police found out that the gun was a toy.

A case of business robbery was opened at the Benoni SAPS.

The two suspects appeared in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on February 28, and were remanded in custody for further investigation.
