One dead, one injured following a shoot-out in Wattville

The case was open at the Actonville Police Station.

Police are investigating a case of attempted murder following a shoot-out between the EMPD officers and five men on February 5 at Dube Street, Wattville, at around 1am.

Actonville SAPS spokesperson Sgt Godin Nyathi said the EMPD Task Team followed up on information received by the intelligence unit about certain people who had firearms.

“When police were driving in the area, they saw five men sitting around a fire,” said Nyathi.

“The five men shouted at the officers then they approached the police vehicle and starting shooting.”

Nyathi said the police shot back at the men and some of them ran away.

“One of the men was found lying unconscious with a 9mm pistol and another man was injured, also with a pistol on his hand,” he said.

The man was transported to a local hospital under police guard.

The case was open at the Actonville Police Station.
