The Ekurhuleni metro has suspended a senior official in the Department of Health and Social Development based on allegations of tender fraud and corruption.
According to the Ekurhuleni spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, the manager in the social development division was suspended with full pay after allegations of tender fraud and corruption involving millions came to the metro’s attention, and after a complaint of unethical and corrupt behaviour was reported against the same individual to the South African Council for Social Service Professions recently.

“The metro has launched a full-scale investigation into the allegations, a process which is driven by the Internal Audit Department,” he said.
Upon conclusion of the investigation, the metro will determine a way forward.
