How to become a DA ward councillor

Matiwane added that candidates must not have a criminal record.

Ward 73 councillor Sinethemba Matiwane is encouraging members of the community to apply to become a Democratic Alliance (DA) ward councillor in Ekurhuleni for the next municipal elections, which will be held in 2021.

“Some people are not aware of the processes to become a ward councillor,” said Matiwane.

“To become a DA councillor, you would need to register online via https://apply.voteda.org/

“The next step is where you register using your ID and cellphone numbers.

“Once you enter those, you will get an OTP (one-time-pin) SMS which you use.

“Then you will be in the application process.

“The applicant’s entry goes through a screening process and the ward for which they will stand as ward councillor is also evaluated.”

The closing date for applications is April 30, 2020.

Matiwane added that candidates must not have a criminal record.
