The movies

Whether you decide to watch the animated or the 2000 version of The Grinch, you cannot have a Grinch night without Grinch movies. You could either watch them movie marathon style or do a Grinchy craft in between.

Create your own Who-Ville

What would a Grinch night be without him trying to steal the gifts? Create your own Grinch with a few simple items. You will need a pair of green leggings, a Santa Claus jacket, stuffing and elf shoes. Stuff the elf shoes then sew them onto the end of the leggings and continue with stuffing the leggings.

Cut the Santa jacket, using about 20cm from the bottom, and sew this onto the waistband of the leggings. Lean your Grinch into your Christmas tree, making it look like his head and torso are inside the tree.

Trade in your red and white Christmas stockings for green ones trimmed with red and white felt. Instead of limiting your Christmas decor to one room, where your tree is, decorate the entire inside of your home.

Grinch-like eats

What is a movie night without popcorn? Here is how you can make your own Grinch Green popcorn.

Once you have popped your popcorn, make a marshmallow mixture. Melt three tablespoons of butter in a medium sauce pan.

Once the butter is melted add three cups of mini-marshmallows. Stir until the marshmallows have melted and then turn off the heat. Add a couple of drops of yellow food colouring and mix until the marshmallow mixture is a bright yellow.

When you have a good yellow colour, add in one very small drop of blue food colouring and stir. This combination of food colouring should get you the perfect “Grinch Green” marshmallow mixture.

Slowly pour the marshmallow mixture over the popcorn. Using a spoon, gently fold the marshmallow mixture in with the popcorn until the popcorn is mostly covered.

The amount of marshmallow mixture you want to add is really up to your own taste. The more you add, the stickier the popcorn will be, so add it a bit at a time, stir the popcorn and give it a taste before you add more.

Once it is all in your popcorn bowl add red M&Ms and mini-marshmallows.

If popcorn is not your thing then maybe spicy guacamole on toasted French bread slices will please your pallet.

In a large bowl blend together one tub of cream cheese, two packages of prepared guacamole, salt, pepper, garlic powder and basil or cilantro paste. Blend until creamy. Add a dollop of the Grinchy green guacamole to the toasted slices and top with a few tomato pieces which have been chopped.

Who-Ville drinks

Grinch drinks are so fun, festive and incredibly easy to make.

Start by placing some Sprite on a small plate. Coat the rim of the glass with Sprite. Roll the glass at a tilted angle to get more Sprite on the rim.

Place some green sugar crystals on a plate, enough to coat the glass rim, and move the glass through the sugar crystals to coat.

After the glass is rimmed with the sugar crystals, it’s time to put in the good stuff. Fill about a third of the glass with Sprite. Add one drop of green food colouring and gently stir with a spoon.

Add one to two cups of vanilla ice cream and continue to fill the glass up with Sprite.

Place a straw in the glass to serve.
