On December 12, Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) officers made 11 arrests in connection with theft and stolen goods to the value of R500 000.

“BFS officers received an alert from a tracking company to look out for a truck that was off route,” said BFS communications officer WO Grant Giblin.

“The officers proceeded to Daveyton Road where the truck was discovered abandoned.

“Shortly after, the owner arrived and informed the officers that the driver and two trailers with the goods were missing.

“While on scene, the owner received a call from his son, who was initially on his way to the scene, informing him that they had located the trailers attached to an unknown truck on Voortrekker Street.

“The son then managed to pull the truck off the road under the pretence of asking for directions.

“In this time, he managed to alert the owner and BFS officers.

“The officers rushed to assist the son, and, upon arrival, they found two occupants in the truck and the trailers empty.

“After questioning, the two suspects were arrested.

“One suspect then offered to show the officers where the stock was offloaded.

“The EMPD Task Team who had arrived on scene for backup then preceded with him to Detroit Street, in Apex, Benoni.

“The EMPD came across a warehouse containing the missing stock as well as another truck half loaded with some of the goods.

“A further nine suspects were immediately arrested on scene for their involvement.

“The suspects aged between 20 to 42 years will be appearing in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of possession of stolen goods and theft.”
