Santa’s Christmas shoebox came in early at The Salvation Army crèche

Shoeboxes will be distributed to thousands of underprivileged children throughout South Africa and Namibia.

The Santa Shoebox Project brought smiles to little faces at The Salvation Army crèche in Howard Avenue on November 22.

National sponsorship and regional manager for Gauteng, Free State, North West, Port Elizabeth and East London Margie Kostelac, who is a Farrarmere resident, handed over beautifully decorated shoeboxes containing items like clothing, stationery, toys, sweets and a toothbrush.

Shoeboxes will be distributed to thousands of underprivileged children throughout South Africa and Namibia, Kostelac explained.

“I started distributing in October, even though pledging only started on September 1.

“We plan on delivering 100 000 boxes nationally, 50 000 of which will be distributed in Gauteng.

“I never get tired of looking at how the children’s faces light up when I give them the shoeboxes,” Kostelac said.

Antonette Grobler, assistant manager at The Salvation Army, said they are sincerely grateful as the shoeboxes will be the only gift some of the children will get this year.

“We are grateful to Margie and the Santa Shoebox Project, and urge everyone to spare a thought for the underprivileged this festive season.”
