Join iThemba for awareness march

The team at iThemba reiterated that men can, and are equally affected, by rape and other forms of abuse just as women and children are.

The iThemba Rape and Trauma Support Centre is urging community members to take part in their noise march taking place on November 29 in a bid to create awareness for the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign.

The annual campaign, which started on November 25, runs until December 10, highlights the severity of women and child abuse, and is used as a platform to create awareness for the cause.

The noise march will commence at the Sinaba Stadium in Eislen Road. It ends at the Daveyton Mall (Victor Ndlazulwane Hall).

Only whistles are permitted on the day for creating noise.

iThemba public relations officer Rose Maja said apart from the march, she would also be visiting the Boksburg prison during this time to talk to men about the 16 Days of Activism.

“Some men think because girls are wearing a mini skirt, short dress or because they (men) buy the girls alcohol that they can rape them.

“We are using various opportunities to debunk this myth.

“Members of the community should use all platforms available to make their voices heard when it comes to abuse.

“Abuse is unacceptable.

“Use the avenues and channels available to you to report abuse.”
