Be a Toy Run reporter

A Toy Run gift shop will also be open at the main entrance.

The 37th Gauteng Motorcycle Toy Run returns to Benoni Northerns on November 24.

Chairperson and event convenor Pete Beart is excited to add that following the success last year of the “hashtag booth” and the big screen on the sound stage, these will be back again this year.

“Anybody can take pictures of the run or their view of the morning, either at one of the starts or on the road, and post their images to our own hashtag #toyrungp19.

“Within minutes of posting the image to Instagram with this hashtag, it will appear on the big screen on stage at Benoni Northerns!” he explained.

“So, anyone – not just Caxton journalists – can become reporters on that day, reporting back to the end venue in pictures.

“Everyone at the main end event will be able to see any comments made and the images.”

He added that never in the event’s history has it stayed at one venue for as long as it has in Benoni, lauding the town’s facilities and residents as the main factors keeping the Toy Run here.

The Toy Run is a charitable event where the biking community gets to donate toys and stationery to less fortunate children, through their own donations and those received by the public on the day.

All residents are therefore invited to bring along a toy or stationery item as their entry fee and come and join in the fun and entertainment.

All mass rides to Northerns start at 9am from these points:

• North – Irene Village Mall

• South – The Blockhouse

• East – Carnival City

• West – Silverstar Casino.

Beart reiterated the Toy Run creates a lot of traffic congestion, but ensured residents the route is well marshalled and controlled.

“In the interest of motorcyclist road safety we have no fewer than five local metros and the provincial police involved, as well as over 350 volunteers and CPF on the day,” he said.
