Medical, patient care, psycho-social department, administration department, charity, fund-raising, statistical and volunteers reports were also discussed at the AGM.

HER administration manager Brenda Bisschoff said the organisation’s charity shops played a pivotal role in the funding.

“Sixty-two per cent of our funding comes from the charity shops,” she said.

“They are vital to our survival.

“There are a total of ten charity shops, and we are asking the public to please continue to support the shops with their donations and purchases.”

HER chairperson Con Roux said within the context of a depressed state in the economy, the fact that the organisation returned an operating surplus slightly in excess of R1-million for the 2018/2019 financial year was nothing short of miraculous.

“The cash position of any organisation is always of immense importance,” he said.

“Along with the pleasing operating surplus for the financial year, HER generated cash slightly in excess of R600 000.

“This has placed the organisation in a position where, at the September 2019 meeting of the executive, the decision could be taken to pay off the bond on 216 Kemston Avenue.”

He added that it was a remarkable achievement stakeholders would be grateful for.
