Crystal Park SAPS pampers Fairleads residents

Crystal Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mopeli said the social crime unit and iThemba joined forces for the day for the initiative that was a campaign started on a district level.

Methodist Homes for the Aged (MHA) Fairleads Retirement Village residents were in for a special treat when the Crystal Parks SAPS recently visited the home as part of their community service project.

The SAPS and iThemba Rape and Trauma Support Centre volunteers made the elderly people’s beds, prayed with them, wheeled them to the in-house hairdresser, did their nails and played games with them.

Crystal Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mopeli said the social crime unit and iThemba joined forces for the day for the initiative that was a campaign started on a district level.

“We are celebrating the elderly in the Crystal Park community and we want to use the initiative as a means of relationship building with the home as a whole,” she said.

“We are helping the elderly by feeding them, giving them a pamper session and spending time with them.”

Mopeli added that the SAPS was also checking if the home had any challenges in crime they needed to addressed.

iThemba stakeholders present said the initiative formed part of their community service and outreach work and that was an opportunity to network and build good partnerships with the elderly and community as a whole.

Matron at the home Nini More said they were happy to have the SAPS and iThemba present on the day.

“They are helpful and we are happy to have their support as this brightens up our residents’ day.”
