Benoni SPCA manager has resigned, but will stay in SPCA family

Vicky has been working at the Benoni SPCA for four years before she decided to part ways with the NPO.

The City Times caught up with Benoni SPCA senior inspector and manager Vicky Finnemore before she leaves her post at the shelter on October 4.

She may be bidding farewell, but her love for the SPCA has not gone anywhere.

“I am moving on to manage the Boksburg SPCA branch,” she said.

“I have made some wonderful new friends in the community from my involvement at the Benoni SPCA.

“I have certainly had some exhilarating moments when facing all sorts of situations out in the field.”

She has also had some sad moments during her time.

“Some of my saddest memories are the confiscations I’ve executed,” she said.

“They’ve been emotionally upsetting as not every animal could be happily rehomed after a life of abuse or neglect.”

Although she is leaving the Benoni SPCA, the manager hopes she managed to make the shelter as happy as it made her.

“I hope that in the four years I have changed the negative perception the Benoni community once had of the SPCA.

“A lot of blood, sweat and tears have gone into improving its reputation and facilities with help from staff and committee members.

“I am very sad to be leaving Benoni, but excited at the challenge that awaits me,” she said.
