Benoni SAPS are now investigating two cases of murder and inquests following the deaths of two people who were found in a local hotel on the morning of September 8.

Initially a case of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and an inquest was opened at the Benoni Police Station on the Sunday morning, however, it was changed to murder and inquest later that day.
According to Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele the couple checked into the hotel on the night of September 7.
“It is alleged that an argument ensued between the two and gunshots were heard,” Sekele explained.
When a hotel employee opened the hotel room door, they found the 17-year-old girl and her partner covered in blood.
“The girl was shot in her upper body and the man was shot in his head,” Sekele said.
“When paramedics arrived, the man was confirmed dead, however the teen was still alive.”
The Wattville resident was transported to a local hospital but due to her injuries, transferred to the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries around 11.30pm.
“The detective is awaiting the post-mortem results for both bodies,” Sekele said.
“Thereafter, the case will be taken to the Benoni court for decision making.”
