Cook and Culture -Its braai culture time, and who doesn’t love a braai with friends?

The fires are lit and tables are filled with colourful salads and traditional food.  Its braai culture time, and who doesn’t love a braai with friends?

 Digital Tip

Yes, it’s true there are braai apps available on Google Play and App Store.  There are a variety of braai recipes to choose from on Pinterest and Facebook that will leave you spoilt for choice with ideas for every braai occasion.

Braai Remedy

Flavourful herbs from your garden can really add an aromatic smell to your braai and taste of your braai cut. For delicious rosemary smoked lamb, place lots of rosemary sprigs on your coals. Works well in a closed kettle braai.  Also, add bay leaves or branches to your coals for flavourful chicken or red meat. You can also squeeze some fresh lemon on your chops, fish and chicken and then use the lemon to clean the braai grid later.  Remember, mosquitoes hate herbs like lavender, mint, lemon balm, sage, and, of course, citronella if you want a peaceful braai.

Pro Tip

Braai etiquette is a thing, especially when attending a braai at work or with colleagues. Here are a few tips to keep the braaimaster smiling, ultimately they are the boss for the day: keep him or her company, offer to fill up their drink and if you’re feeling helpful, offer to be the braai assistant.

Local Star

While we are enjoying delicious food and laughter with friends, remember to be the local star and invite that friend or family member you haven’t seen in ages.

Charity

We would have made copious amount of food and have loads of leftovers. Sharing is caring, pack a leftover braai lunch for yourself and someone at your work or give it to someone who is less fortunate.

Have You Seen It Yet?

Watch the Dark Waters trailer with Mark Ruffalo and Anne Hathaway about a defence attorney taking on an environmental lawsuit against a chemical company.  Release date is November 22.

Food For Thought

Be thankful for your friends who stick by your side. Even when you aren’t at your best they provide support and positivity when you need it most. Laughing and fun with friends can do you a world of good.

What’s On The Braai?

Any time is braai time. The recipe and décor ideas are endless and having a social is the perfect time to strut your stuff and make it special.
