Benoni Lakes Lions Club book sale successful

A total of R13 600 was raised over the three-day period

The Benoni Lakes Lions Club recently hosted a three-day book sale at Lakeside Mall.

According to project coordinator Beaulieu Maré, the book sale is a fund-raising initiative that takes place every three to four months, or whenever the opportunity arises.

“We do have a regular client base, but we welcome new customers to indulge in the wide selection of books available,” she said.

“We have noticed a lot of non-fiction books are being sold which means people are buying books to become more knowledgeable in various facets.

“The initiative is a service-funding project and our books are reasonably priced with books selling for around R20 each.

“We also wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to those who have contributed with donations and their efforts in making the book sale a success.

“The sale would not be possible without their support.”

Western Extension resident Renato Pietroiusti and his wife Carla were fascinated with the selection of books available at the sale.

A total of R13 600 was raised over the three-day period, 70 per cent of which Beaulieu says will go towards building a local eye clinic.

The eye clinic, which is estimated to cost around R3-4 million, is a long-term goal the club wants to achieve and will be open to indigent members of society.

“The balance of the proceeds from the sale will go towards the associated costs of our current projects.”

The current projects include diabetes and vision screening and youth development initiatives.
