Murder
Tebogo Makuwa (25) pleaded guilty to murder after intentionally stabbing someone with a glass bottle behind the ear, intending to kill them. The 25-year-old was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment on August 29 by Magistrate Mitzi Schutte.
Armed robbery
Co-accused Ayanda Skhosana (24) and Dumisani Zwane (29) were charged with robbery with aggravating circumstances after assaulting and robbing a victim of R3 210 cash and cigarettes at gunpoint in Crystal Park in 2017. They were sentenced 12 months’ imprisonment and were both declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Contravention of Immigration Act
Zimbabwean nationals Calvin Marime (29) and Siphokuhle Mabena (27) were found guilty of contravening the Immigration Act on August 27. They were each sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty.
Armed robbery
Lebesa Lebes (24) and Siyabonga Skosana (18) were found guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances. The pair stole R10 000 cash, airtime vouchers, groceries and cellphones using a knife and firearm in 2016. Both were sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment, of which five years are suspended on condition they are not convicted of robbery with aggravating circumstances or any other offence during the period of suspension. They were also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
