Raising awareness for women’s safety

Each participant who attended the walk paid R10 for their ticket which was given to the home.

Hundreds of people filled the streets of Actonville with good cheer, dance and song on August 31 in aid of the Bathesda House Women’s Month March.

The home, which was founded by Dr David Sagathevan in 2006, is a shelter for abused women and their children.

It was indeed a chilly morning, but nothing stopped the community of Actonville and surrounding areas, members from the Christian Teaching Centre (CTC) and CTC Primary School from picking up their banners and making the last day of Women’s Month count by raising awareness on women and child abuse.

“The march began at 8am and finished around 9.30am,” said event organiser Benjamin Sagathevan.

“We met at the CTC (on Lancaster Road), walked through the streets of Actonville and returned to the CTC.

“We had more people this year than last year.”

The walk will be held again in August 2020 and all are invited to join.
