The following cases were recently finalised

The following cases were recently finalised in the Benoni Regional Court:

Robbery

Bafana Mahamba was found guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances. The 34-year old will serve a 10-year imprisonment after committing intentional assault and stealing money to the value of R3 500 in Etwatwa in February.

Assault and GBH

Sifiso Radebe (31) pled guilty to assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Radebe was sentenced to a fine of R3 000 or 18 months’ imprisonment in terms of section 276(1)(b)of CPA 51 of 1977 of which half is suspended for three years on condition that the accused is not found guilty of assault during the period of suspension.

Attempted murder and assault

Sthembiso Shabalala was found guilty of assault and attempted murder on August 8 by Magistrate Mitzi Schutte. The accused received one count of 30-days’ imprisonment and a second count of eight years’ imprisonment and was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The following cases were recently finalised in the Benoni District Court:

GBH and damage to property

Odwa Ndleleni was charged with assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm and with malicious damage to property. The 21-year old was sentenced with a fine of R6 000 or alternatively 12 months’ imprisonment which is suspended for three years on condition the accused is not convicted of assault, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm or malicious damage to property during the period of suspension.

Speeding

Gavin Phelelo (31) was found guilty of failure to comply with speed limits after driving at a speed of 143km/h in an 80km/h zone. Phelelo was fined R9 000 or two months’ imprisonment of which half is suspended for three years on condition the accused is not convicted of contravening section 59(4) (b) NRTA 93 (as amended) during the period of suspension. His license was not suspended.
